use #zinetour to spread the word on Twitter!
The short story: I’m on the cover of the May issue of Experience Life magazine, and we’re doing this magazine tour to get the word out — both about the magazine and about the power of social media to spread great ideas in innovative ways. We’d love to see you turn out — or help us tweet it up!
The long story: I’m on the cover of this magazine, which sounds exciting (it is!), but what’s more exciting is this: The tour we’re doing in conjunction with the launch of this issue is an experiment in how social media combined with local community can create significant national impact. And you can be part of the experiment — by circulating word of the tour, and by showing up for it!
The tour will raise awareness of the magazine (an amazing healthy-living publication that already reaches more than two million people), and will also highlight some very cool local businesses in Boulder (see above). And we’ll be getting the word out mostly via social media and local community connections.
Show up for a stop on the tour, and you can get a FREE copy of the magazine. Plus, I’ll be doing a short talk at each stop on how to use social media to amplify your business and tell a better story — with real life examples from local businesses. You’ll get to connect with lots of other cool folks who share your interests (and depending on the tour stop, maybe meet Experience Life’s editor in chief, Pilar Gerasimo).
We’ll be doing a tweet-up or two along the way. Oh, and we’ll also be talking about the message in the magazine’s cover-profile interview with me. (You’ll have to read the magazine to find out what that message is…).
So there you have it: The Zine Tour experiment is on! Stay tuned for more details and locations!
Just as book tours raise awareness about new books, this tour helps draw attention to an innovative magazine — one that takes a totally different approach from most conventional health and fitness titles.
The theme of Experience Life’s May issue is “Discover Something Wonderful.” This tour is an opportunity for you to discover the magazine and to share word of it with those you think will enjoy it. By featuring me on the cover and doing a profile story about me, the magazine is also giving its readers an opportunity to discover who I am and what I do on the Social Web — all of which helps create a fun synergy of like-minded folks who care about a lot of the same things, including the power and value of both local and online communities to share and grow good ideas.
For this tour, we chose Boulder-based businesses that are already using the social web (which allows them the chance to tweet out the event). We trust that word will quickly spread beyond Boulder, though (excited to see how far!), and that many of those who can’t participate in the local tour will still get in on our online conversations and help get the word out to others.
Whether folks wind up discovering me, Experience Life magazine, each other, or all of the above, they’ll also get some great ideas on how to promote their own businesses, projects or passions.
Wanna help get the party started? Tell a few of your friends — or better yet, check out the tour stops above and if you can, drop by!
